| A Short History Sabita Ghosh and
Rina Das had taught Bengali at their homes before Pragati Bengali School started. A
proposal to start a Bengali Sunday School was brought in to the Pragati executive
committee on 11th April, 1987 by the then Vice President Krishna Sen. On 25th April that
year, a questionnaire was distributed among the general membership to ask about their
feelings about such a school. To materialize the members' wish, a working committee was
formed on 31st July.
On 11th October, 1987 the Bengali School had its first class in Wyndham House of Bryn
Mawr College. After a short stay there, the school moved to Chestnut Hill Watertower
Recreation Center. The school meeets on two Saturdays every month in that location ever
since.
