Rhythms of India

For the first time ever in the United States!
We are proud to announce that Nandalal Bose's paintings have come to Philadelphia!

Born on December 3, 1882, Nandalal Bose bacame one of modern India's most important artists and a pride of Bengal. His art works have been appreciated all over the world. The Father of Indian Art, and Ghandi's most favorite artist, glorifies India, rural Bengal and Indian life.

The exhibition, ‘Rhythms of India: The Art of Nandalal Bose (1882-1966)’ is on display this summer at Philadelphia Museum of Art (June 27 – September 1)

Around 100 works of Nandalal Bose are on display, including postcards and a series of high-resolution photographs of his murals. Also on show are replicas of architectural elements from his life, including a wooden arch at a doorway from Rabindranath Tagore’s house. Also included are works by his teachers, students and contemporary artists inspired by his art.

Concurrently running is another exhibition called Multiple Modernities: India 1905-2005, showing works of Tagore, Jamini Roy, V.S.Gaitonde, Atul Dodiya, Tyeb Mehta, F.N. Souza and Bhupen Khakar. This exhibition ends on December 7.
